Itinerary

Day 1:

La Paz Airport Transportation to Hotel (Night)

El Alto airport is currently the highest international airport in the world at 4,080m/13.115 ft above sea level. We will provide transportation from airport to hotel, via a short highway, from which you can settle in, and enjoy a nice evening view of the sparkling city lights.

Day 2:

Tiwanaku Ruins (Half Day) & City Tour and Valley of the Moon (Half Day)

Tiwanaku is a 1½ hours drive from La Paz (72 km/45 miles). Throughout the drive, you will be able to see the highlands as they are passed as well as the Aymaran way of life. Tiwanaku dates back to 1580BC – 1200AC, was one of the most important pre-Inca civilizations and is considered to be among the most developed at the time. We will then return to La Paz. In the afternoon, take a four hour city tour through La Paz. La Paz, elected as one of the 7 Wonder Cities in the World, is located in a valley at the foothills of the Andes range, situated at 3,632m / 11942 ft above sea level. The tour will weave through the street markets, rich in handicrafts, weaving and witchcraft items. We will visit the colonial section of the city including:

Then we will descend into the more modern, southern part of La Paz to reach and visit the Valley of the Moon, where a clay mountain has been impressively shaped by erosion.

Day 3:

La Paz to Uyuni Salt flats

Transportation provided to the airport to make flight to Uyuni. Meeting at Uyuni’s airport upon arrival. At 10:00 a.m. we will depart from Uyuni to the visit the great salt flats. Along our journey we will visit:

At an appropriate time, we will go back to the Uyuni village.

Day 4:

Colchani – Uyuni – La Paz – Copacabana – Sun Island

We will travel from Colchani to Uyuni’s airport to take a flight back to La Paz. On arrival to La Paz, we will have a brief meeting in the airport before starting our next adventure.  Our next trip with include private transportation as we head north through the highlands, later to drive alongside Lake Titicaca, and parallel to the Andes Royal Range until Copacabana (3 ½ hours), a pleasant town in the shores of Lake. We will visit the church and the famous “Virgen Morena” in Copacabana. Later, taking a trip by boat crossing the lake to the Island of the Sun (1 hour) until Huacani to have an Aptapi (typical lunch in the highlands). This trip continues by boat up till to the ruins of Pilkokaina Inca temple. Finally we will hike to La Estancia, accompanied by a wonderful view of Lake Titicaca (1 hour approximately).

Day 5:

La Chincana – Moon island – Copacabana – Cable car ride – La Paz

DON’T MISS THE GREAT SUNRISE! Once your up and running, we will take a boat to La Chincana (1 hour), where w will see great Inca ruins. We will then continue by boat (1 hour) to the Moon Island, where we will visit the Iñak Uyu ruins. Then we will take a boat to Copacabana (1 ½ hour). Finally, we will take transportation back La Paz (3 ½ hours). There will be a cable car ride (Teleférico) from El Alto City to La Paz; this is a great choice of transportation as you will be able to discover excellent and beautiful views of La Paz. Honestly, it is a must for everyone visiting and has the opportunity!

Day 6:

Transportation to the airport

Pick-up from hotel and transportation to the airport. Ascending to El Alto, there will be a nice view of La Paz.

Other hotel categories at request. Local guides will be provided. Tour Leader throughout the route at request. Museums in La Paz closed on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon and all day on Mondays. Rainy season: (November to April) Roads might be in bad shape. Uyuni Salt flats are flooded. Access to Pucara de Ayque or Incahuasi might be difficult or impossible. Program might have to be changed due to these reasons. As roads Uyuni Region are not paved, we will use 4×4 cars, each one with a maximum of 4 passengers. To avoid high costs, guide and / or Tour Leader will go in the back part of the cars if necessary. To reach the Ecolodge La Estancia will have to walk of an hour and a half there, as well as an half of an hour upon return.
